Jim Furyk stressed because of his disappointing finish at the Bridgestone Invitational
Jim Furyk, a veteran American golfer, has been sensational right from the start of the 2012 PGA Tour season. Every time he tees off in any tournament, he gets into contention for the top position on the leaderboard.
However, he has always remained unlucky when it comes to retaining the top spot at the end of the 72nd hole.
He tied for the first position at the Transitions Championship earlier in the season. However, Luke Donald outshined him on the first extra hole in the playoffs.
During the US Open this year, he had a share of the lead with three holes to play in the final round. However, he tumbled and tied for the fourth position in the end.
This time, he led the prestigious World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational throughout the four rounds except the final hole – the 72nd.
While standing on the 18th tee on Sunday, he had a one-stroke lead over his playing partner Keegan Bradley. However, he failed to maintain accuracy and his second shot found the fairway at the edge of the greenside bunker.
The ball landed in a poor lie, such that his chip shot failed to reach the green. He once again had to play a chip shot, which settled five feet away from the hole. There, he had the chance to turn in the ball for a bogey that would have forced the game to enter the playoffs.
However, it did not happen and he missed the easy putt and suffered a double bogey in the end. Meanwhile, Bradley saved the par with an impressive 15-foot putt and clinched the victory one week before the PGA Championship.
"Right now I'm just a little bit in shock with the way I finished up," Furyk told reporters."I turned a five into a six and lost the golf tournament on the last hole. There's no way I should have made double bogey".
"I've lost some tournaments in some pretty poor fashions, but I don't think I've let one ever slip nearly as bad as this one. This was my worst effort to finish off an event," he added.
He will now head for the PGA Championship and is confident to shrug off the disappointing defeat with an impressive display of game at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
