Jim Goldie seeking big wins this season
Jim Goldie is not as big name as Willie Mullins and Nicky Henderson, but his horses are famous for producing shocking results time and again. The experienced handler, however, is not enjoying the best of time these days.
During the last 10 days of July, he participated in more than two dozen races, but tasted no success. Things certainly have not been going as planned, but it does not mean that Jim Goldie’s runners can be underestimated.
At the start of this month, Hawkeyethenoo caused a huge upset in the class 2 Blue Square Bet Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap) at Glorious Goodwood. The Jim Goldie-trained raised many eyebrows by delivering a thumping performance in the hands of Graham Lee.
It was not an easy triumph for Hawkeyethenoo, as the 9-1 chance had to work really hard in order to bag the first prize. The 6-year-old son of Hawk Wing beat Imperial Guest only by a nose to ensure the top spot.
Hawkeyethenoo’s unexpected victory is enough to prove Jim Goldie’s ability to grab surprise wins. The skilful trainer has plenty of dangerous runners at his yard, and a few of them are: Hillview boy, Nanton, Merchant Of Dubai, La Vecchia Scuola and Dhaular
Dhar.
No big win has come to Jim Goldie so far this season, but he has some mega plans. Following a splendid effort at Goodwood, Hawkeyethenoo has established himself as a very strong contender for the Ayr Gold Cup.
After bagging the top prize at Goodwood, Goldie told the Racing Post that even though there are some immediate plans, Hawkeyethenoo will surely go for the Gold Cup, scheduled to take place on September 22nd.
"I would be surprised if we don't go to Haydock. But he'll certainly get an entry for Ayr," said Goldie after his win at Goodwood.
The veteran jockey is also due to go to York, where he will be represented by three quality runners, Merchant Of Dubai, Icon Dream and Nanton, in the Betfred Ebor (Heritage Handicap).
The Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup is another major goal for Goldie, who will have to handle things wisely to run Hawkeyethenoo both at Haydock and Ayr. His massive experience will be pretty valuable, and Goldie looks in good position to create some major upsets
later this season.
