Jim Irsay and Peyton Manning: The family at dispute – Part One
The Indianapolis Colts are through to a week of tough talking. The issue to hit hard was the recovery and return of the quarterback, Peyton Manning. In addition to Manning the other party in the contest was his employer, Jim Irsay, himself.
Both parties had spoken in equally befitting manners.  It was Peyton Manning to go first. The player having held back his breath quite a long let it go at the end.
He threw his frustration at his boss, furiously and bluntly. Apparently, he had been sitting on the issues too long, for more than three months, probably.
It all started with a permission by his doctor to intensify his workout. The assurance had given him a new hope of his return to Colts some time later in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
He did come out to practice along his teammates at one occasion, and later was reported to be not as comfortable and convincingly to his team management.
Not enough for them to weigh the possibility of his return. In his remarks, the owner, Jim Irsay, ruled out the likelihood of his playing in the season.
The players who caught his throws spoke otherwise. They said his throws were fairly enough to give him chance of playing in a game.
So was thought by some of his close friends and football punters. His younger brother, Eli Manning, who is a QB at the New York Giants, was even more convincing of his brother’s recovery and hopeful of his return.
Nothing much said by his regular supporter, Bill Polian, the former Colts’ vice chairman, probably due to a fear of denying his employer, there was little hope he will come back to play for Colts in the season.
The fear of his dejection by the team came true with an immediate statement by Irsay that Manning will not be playing for them in the season.
This was after the Indianapolis Colts had pulled off their first win of the season, in game 14 of week 15 of the NFL.
The team management was not settled there and then. Following day, team’s coach, Jim Caldwell, came out with his respective statement that Manning will not practice along his teammates, anymore. He said the player will be recovering through individual workout,
instead.
So, it was the turmoil in waiting for Peyton Manning. Next three months were even more frustrating for him.
It was more sort of a surprise for him to have seen so much over past few weeks. He can’t believe it, and expressed of his shock over the rash of changes at Colts introduced by Irsay.
It is not just his future. With nothing much clear about his future, he is deprived of all his former managers and coaches.
The owner has fired vice chairman, Bill Polian, his son Chris Polian, the general manager at Colts. He has also parted ways with his head coach, Jim Caldwell, who has been force behind Manning’s training and performance.
The owner went a step ahead and sacked as many as eight assistant coaches. So, almost all people who Peyton Manning has worked with are no more at Colts.
Apparently, the developments have come hard on the player. He has expressed his shock over the latest development at the team.
It could not have been easy for the player in any normal situation. It is rather difficult to fit his circumstances amid the uncertainty around his recover from his neck injury.
