Jim Irsay and Peyton Manning: The family at dispute – Part Two
It was the frustration over the latest developments at the Indianapolis Colts, most importantly the sacking of his former bosses by the owner, Jim Irsay, which made the quarterback, Peyton Manning, to decide not to hold back anything further and come out
with his repetitive outbursts over a span of few days.
He called the environment at the headquarters unhealthy and said the developments do not bode well into his chances of recovery and return.
His statements were more open and critical for the first time. It was also on only few occasions that he had gone public about the pertaining issue of his comeback to the Indianapolis Colts.
Little he knew that they will fall hard on the ears of his boss, Irsay, who wasted no time in rejecting the player’s comments and labelling him a ‘politician’.
He said that he was disappointed over Manning’s choice of going public about what he called was a family affair and should have been discussed within the house.
He indirectly criticized the player and advised him to leave the issue of his recovery and return to be taken up within the house.
Apparently, the owner was wary of Colts fans, who are not happy with the latest decisions, especially of sacking his coach, taken by the team management.
They are particularly concerned about the recovery and return of Peyton and are eager to hear it confirmed through words of his owner.
With nothing final said by Irsay, so far, he apparently has attempted to calm his fans by clarifying that the decision about Manning’s return to Colts will be down to his health.
He had rejected the notion of being negative or otherwise about the return of the player, saying he was conscious of the players’ health because, he said, that a decision on his health will have a longer-term effect on his life.
Peyton Manning, who has been following all these developments and Irsay’s statements closely, came out strongly into the defence of his earlier remarks.
He said what he said was in no intention of creating a public feud between him and his team. He further said that he did not want the team’s fans go rebellion against the team.
The Player said that he wanted to discuss all pertaining issues, including of his health, with the owner. He did not much hint at him being frustrated for not having an opportunity to hold such discussions with Irsay for more than three months now.
It was then that Irsay went sensible and attempted to mend the ties, which were clearly seen falling apart. The media reports have hit the increasing gulf between the two parties. In spite of the silence from both parties the rift in their relationship was
seen clear and wide.
Before the hype could have done further damage, the team management issued a joint statement, claiming both parties were at peace and in good working relationship.
Again the issue, the prospects of Peyton Manning playing for Colts next season, which had been proving a food for thought for the media to build a hype and controversy around the issue, was not touched by either Manning himself or the owner.
It left almost all the questions around Manning’s future with or without Colts remained unanswered. The media punters and football commentators in the meantime have continued with their projections of the developments and future’s happenings.
This leaves Colts fans and all those who are a part of the American football in any sense baffled about how long it will take to Colts to make their choice about Manning.
