Jim Irsay offers to dole out money as Indianapolis Colts hint at high-profile hiring – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have hinted at making some high-profile hiring well within the line of head coach Chuck Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson who have been handed down the task of improving squad without being worried about the money by owner Jim
Irsay.
Both abovementioned officials have said on more than one occasion that they will improve the team no matter what it takes, and now with a show of willingness by the owner to dole out any amount, they are in the market weighing their options.
Jim through his tweets has confirmed the team is looking for bringing in new players but did not elaborate about the positions.
He wrote:
"TRADE WINDS BLOWING."
The owner later added that Grigson and Pagano are not afraid of rolling dice out and that he himself is backing them with financial commitments.
At the same time, Irsay admitted that often deals of this nature fall through. With this much said and disclosed, the entire situation is still down to the talks’ level.
Amid dearth of information around the expected development it is difficult to ascertain at which position the team is aiming to bring in new players. In one of their remarks earlier, some officials from Colts’ front office had mentioned that the team needed
to strengthen the squad at cornerback and offensive line positions.
The team’s need at the defensive positions is also reflective in the fact that the new head coach has transformed the defence to a 4-3 scheme, and with Colts already exposed in quality of defensive players, Pagano must be interested to improve the situation.
Stakes are higher for the coach as far as performance of Colts’ defence under the revised strategy is concerned and the official is willing to do all what it takes to prove his decision of moving away from previously implemented defence scheme was credible
one.
Colts have traditionally not relied on their defence in their performance and victories as much as some other teams have done. Their experience of last year’s mess has probably made the owner thinking of moving away from the total reliance on their offence,
or on the quarterbacks more precisely.
Irsay’s latest tweets have generated an interest in the market and almost all circles of the professional league are anxious to see what changes the owner and his managers introduce to the squad.
