Jim Leyland: Detroit Tigers are trying to keep everyone happy – MLB News
In an interview with a reputed baseball website, Detroit Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland stated that the Tigers are doing everything they can to win the World Series title this season. Last season, Jim Leyland and his men displayed some high quality baseball to win the American League division title. However, they were unable to deliver the goods in the post season as they failed to make it to the World Series.
"He's not the happiest camper," manager Jim Leyland said of Inge, a lifetime Tiger. "He certainly understands, and we try to deal with these issues as we're supposed to because it's part of our responsibility."
"I'll make that perfectly clear today," Leyland said, before acknowledging the drop-off in defence from Inge to Cabrera. "He's not going to have the agility defensively most likely that Inge has, but you give up a little something, and you get a whole lot in return."
Tigers’ general manager, Dave Dombrowski has taken huge steps to power Tigers’ hitting and pitching line-ups this season. Signing a nine year multi million deal with free agent Prince Fielder, the Tigers are tackling their problems one after another to build a team that is strong enough to win the World Series title in 2012.
During Tigers’ winter caravan, infielder Brandon Inge expressed concerns about his future with the Tigers. The right handed striker was unable to deliver the goods last season as he managed to hit a poor .177 batting average in 239 plate appearances. The Tigers decided to send Inge to the Triple A league after he wasted a large number of opportunities during the season.
Right now, things are not looking very bright for Inge. He wants to become a full time third baseman for the Tigers. However, the club has already signed on a full time 3B man in Miguel Cabrera. With Prince Fielder filling the first base vacant spot for Dave Dombrowski’ side, Inge will have to wait for another chance to prove his metal.
Dombrowski commented in an interview that he has selected the best possible side for the Tigers’ campaign this season and he will do everything to make Inge feel better about his situation.
