Jim Leyland and Ron Washington show plenty of sportsmanship in ALCS - MLB Update
The Detroit Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland and Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington have showed the World true sportsmanship when they exchanged their encouraging views for each-other’s team and their terrific efforts throughout the series.
On Saturday night, just after the Tigers were thrashed by the Rangers 15-5 and eventually lost the best of seven series 4-2 in the American League Championship Series (ALCS), both managers appreciated their opponents’ on field hard-work with great words.
Tigers’ manager Leyland came out first in the media and congratulated the Rangers on their remarkable win and wished them luck for the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Leyland said, “First of all, let me congratulate the Texas Rangers, The entire Rangers’ organization. They earned this series win.”
Later, Texas’ manager Ron Washington spoke to the media and talked about the Tigers great courage and their enormous fighting spirit. He also appreciated Leyland’s baseball managing skills and his baseball knowledge.
Washington said, “I want to congratulate the Detroit Tigers for the spirit and the way they fought out there in the field and the fun that they gave to the fans through this series, Jim Leyland is one heck of a baseball man and he has one heck of a baseball
team.”
Leyland, who has vast managerial experience, acknowledged Ron Washington on his tremendous efforts which have changed many things in the Texas franchise. Leyland also spoke regarding his and Washington’s friendship that will never see any glitch despite
of their similar jobs in two different organisations.
Both managers were extremely happy as the series ended on a high note with everybody pleased on each other’s efforts. Throughout the series, the Tigers and Rangers persistently tried to show the upbeat environment on the field that sent a very positive message
across baseball World. However, the thrilling series was eventually won by the Rangers who went on to play in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The amazing display of sportsmanship between Leyland and Washington shows the competitive spirit of the game and of MLB which will definitely add to the upcoming World Series.
