Jim Leyland happy with Detroit Tigers' complete arsenal - MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski share nothing in common except for the fact they both work for the same club. Leyland and Dombrowski come from different backgrounds and the manner in which they approach everyday life
is also very different.
But skipper Leyland will be very pleased with his team’s situation these days. Detroit Tigers have raised their game play significantly over the last few weeks and they even swept their arch rivals Chicago White Sox in a three game series to take the first
place on the American League Central Division standings.
With plenty of games still to be played this season, Tigers reaching first is only half the battle. The real challenge lies ahead when all Major League Baseball teams will be playing to their maximum strength.
There is something else Leyland and Dombrowski share in common; the dream to lead the Tigers to their first World Series title since 1984.
Leyland and company produced some excellent results last season to win the American League Central title. However, competition this year is going to be tougher than ever before and the Tigers will be looking to pounce on every opportunity to stay at the
top of league standings.
With Justin Verlander in top form, Tigers’ pitching attack is capable of beating even the best in the business. After acquiring Anibal Sanchez, a right handed pitcher, there is more depth and variety in the pitching rotation.
Miguel Cabrera, who now has more than 300 career home-runs to his name, can also play a key role to help the Tigers win the AL Central title for the second straight year.
Leyland would have been nervous had the Tigers relied on the youngsters for number five spot throughout the season. However, having filled that spot with a talented pitcher as Sanchez, he will be feeling very content with Tigers’ arsenal.
In Prince Fielder, Detroit has one of the best hitters in American League. Fielder may have come at a high cost, he has the ability to single handedly win games for his team. Leyland and Dombrowski may not even see each other once their days with the Tigers
are over but if Tigers win this year, they will certainly remember working together towards a common goal.
