Jim Leyland is the perfect manger for Detroit Tigers – MLB News Update
Critics say the Detroit Tigers lack leadership in locker room but they have made it to the World Series. Not bad at all. Manager Jim Leyland has the ability to stay focused in the spot light as well. He does not get carried away by the situation.
Similarly, Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera do not seek the spotlight as they know how to stay focused on the task at hand. Leyland certainly knows what he is doing. He wants the Tigers to face whatever challenge comes their way in the World Series against
the San Francisco Giants.
Tigers had to wait for a long time to find out their World Series opponents. Leyland and company swept the Yankees in the best of seven games of American League Championship Series last week and they have already flown out to San Francisco, California.
"The idea is to come prepared and go do your job," he said. "Play the game. They've done a great job. (Sunday) the attitude was great."
"It's a good bunch of guys to be around," Leyland said Monday. "A lot of people thought we didn't have a lot of spirit because we've got a lot of quiet personalities, and I tried to tell everybody that. This team, they have their moments, but it's not a
rah-rah team. It hasn't been all year. It's been pumped up a little more lately, but our superstars don't really talk a lot, so that automatically is a little bit different."
The team went to the ballpark straight from the airport. Leyland does not want his men to waste a single minute. The club has its best chance of claiming the World Series title since 1984. Tigers did make it to the World Series in 2006 but they lacked the
pitching resources back then.
However, the rotation has looked in commanding form in this year’s post-season. Leyland took the Marlins to World Series title glory in 1997 with a plenty of distractions around him. It will be interesting to see if he can live up to the expectations to
win the trophy for the 83-year-old owner Mike Ilitch.
