Jim Leyland optimistic about Justin Verlander – MLB News
Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander is 30 year old now. In his Major League Baseball career, Verlander has achieved almost everything except for a World Series title ring. Verlander is one of the most talented and reliable pitchers in the game today. Without
a shadow of a doubt, his fast balls and sliders are the best in the business.
He is one of the only few starring pitchers who can hit the 100 mph mark. However, in addition to being extremely talented and skilful, the 30 year old is reliable and consistent. Over the last few years, he has hardly missed any games with injuries or other
similar problems. It is easy to understand why the Tigers are ready to pay any price to retain Verlander in their starting rotation.
“He says this based on his health -- he has learned how to take care of himself and pace himself -- and his experience. Plus, his first season came when he was 23. It's easy to see him making more starts in his 30s than in his 20s. If Verlander only matches
in his 30s what he has done in his 20s, he'll have had a tremendous career. If one takes his current career totals and doubles them, these would be his final career totals. If Verlander stayed with the Detroit Tigers long enough, he would break the club record
of 223 wins,” said John Lowe of Detroit News.
Verlander posted his best season in 2011 when he claimed the Pitching Triple Crown Award. With an incredible 24-5 record, 250 plus strikeouts and an impressive 2.40 ERA, he dominated the American League with some high quality throwing skills. Verlander also
claimed the prestigious American League Most Valuable Player Award and the Cy Young Award during that season.
Verlander continued his excellent winning streak in 2012 as well and it will not be wrong to say that he helped the Tigers win the American League Central Division title for the second straight time. Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland is expecting the ace to continue
to good work in 2013 as well so the Tigers can end their 29 years World Series drought.
