Jim Leyland will manage Detroit Tigers in 2013 as well – MLB Update

Throughout the season there were rumours that Jim Leyland will quit his job in Detroit at the end of the season but he continued to insist that there would come a time to decide his managing future.
The moment arrived on Tuesday and it is now officially confirmed that Leyland will managed the Detroit Tigers for one more year. Tigers made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon, giving Leyland a one year contract extension.
After the Tigers were swept by the San Francisco Giants in the best of seven World Series finals, it seemed Leyland might lose his job but that did not turn out to be the case. The Tigers and Leyland did not take too long to end the speculation.
''I really don't know why this is such a shock to everybody, because we told everybody that we weren't going to talk about this until after the season,'' Leyland said in a post game interview. ''It's not even 48 hours and it's done.''
In an interview with a leading sports website, Tigers’ General Manager Brian Cashman stated that Leyland is comfortable taking his future year by year at this stage of his career.
''I'm going to be here in 2013, and we'll take that from there,'' Leyland said. ''I wanted to manage, but I did think long and hard about it, because I wanted to make sure that I was going to be doing everything that you need to do to continue to keep this
club headed in the right direction.''
Tigers have now lost in the World Series twice in seven years. It will be interesting to see if Leyland can finally take the Tigers to World Series glory.
Leyland is an extremely experienced professional. He currently leads all the mangers with 1676 wins, which also puts him 15th on the career list. Under his supervision, the Tigers have reached the post season three times. Everybody in Detroit
also seems to be very pleased with Leyland’s efforts.
The entire Tigers’ staff is expected to be back by next week. Leyland will now be managing the Tigers for the eighth straight season.
