Jim Liu remains in contention at the Junior PGA Championship
Jim Liu remained in contention at the 37th Junior PGA Championship while heading for the final two rounds of the event. He recorded a one-under par 71 in the second round to settle one stroke behind the halfway leader Tyler McDaniel.
Liu started off his round two strokes behind the overnight leader J.B. Williams with a five-under par 67 in the opening round.
Williams faltered on Wednesday and recorded a disgraceful eight-over par 80, following his opening round course-record matching performance of a 65.
In the meantime, McDaniel took advantage of it and surged to the top of the leaderboard with a three-under par 69 for a seven-under par two-round score.
Liu, on the other hand, also played brilliantly through the first 17 holes. He started off on the back nine of the course and recorded two birdies on the 12th and 15th hole, followed by another one on the 2nd hole, his 11th,
to get into the lead.
However, played a wayward tee shot on the 9th hole, his 18th, followed by a poor approach shot to the green.
He still had the chance of remaining in the lead but missed an easy putt for a bogey. Therefore, he had to suffer a double bogey in the end and, in turn, slipped down to the second place on the leaderboard. His final score at the end of two rounds was six-under
par.
Despite a bad finish to his second round at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club, he is confident to take positives out of his performance and plans to overcome his mistakes in the upcoming round.
"I hit a bad tee shot on my last hole, followed it up with a bad approach and then missed a short putt for bogey," Liu said. "The rest of the week, if I get any bad breaks like this, I need to keep a positive attitude and put myself in a position to win".
According to the golf commentators, the 2010 US Junior Amateur winner definitely has what it takes to be a good golfer. Therefore, he definitely can surge to the top if he maintains his form in the final two rounds.
