Jim McDonnell: James DeGale can fight anywhere and is eager to take on Cristian Sanavia – Boxing
Jim McDonnell, mentor James DeGale, the current EBU (European) super middleweight champion, is confident that his man can fight in any ring setup anywhere in the world and will not have cold feet at all.
He added that James is eagerly waiting to get in the ring to take on Cristian Sanavia, the former EBU (European) super middleweight champion.
James and Cristian will enter the ring on April 21, 2012 and will fight in the undercard of the hefty pay-per-view promoted by the duo of Nisse Sauerland of SPAG and Luca Ferrara of Round Zero.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Arena Nord situated in Frederikshavn, Denmark and the night will be co-headlined by the WBA intercontinental middleweight championship bout between Patrick Nielsen and Gaston Alejandro Vega.
James, 26, has been in a total 12 bouts and emerged victorious in 11. He has lost just one bout to George Groves and has nailed eight of his opponents by knockout. The young Briton is seriously outclassed by Sanavia’s experience who has been in a total 51
bouts and boasts 45 wins.
The veteran Italian proud has collected just 13 of his total wins by knockout and lacks the ability to blur his opponent’s senses by throwing powerful jabs. In addition, Cristian has also held the WBC super middleweight title and has won several other titles
including the Italy middleweight gold.
The odds are in favour of Cristian only in terms of experience otherwise it is James who has a clear upper hand over his southpaw opponent. James has nailed many emphatic names in the division such as Paul Smith and recently nailed Piotr Wilczewski to grab
the EBU (European) and WBO intercontinental super middleweight titles.
During the recent media interaction, Jim expressed his sheer confidence and faith in his lad and said, “He’s boxed all over the world. I’ve never seen anybody so comfortable with going abroad. It never troubled him as an amateur and it doesn’t worry him
now. He can’t wait for it and is really looking forward to getting in that ring.”
The southpaw ‘chunky’ while sharing his thoughts commented, “Whether it’s in my front room or in China, a ring is a ring. It doesn’t bother me.” James while revealing his preparation for the title defence said, “I’ve been working with different sparring
partners in the last few months and I’ve gone back to how I used to box, which is how I won the gold medal.”
The Saturday night show will also witness Andreas Evensen and Willie Casey take on each other for the vacant WBA international featherweight gold.
