Jim Miller executes Melvin Guillard by rare-naked choke manoeuvre at UFC on FX – UFC news
On January 20, 2012 Friday Night, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) staged a huge show of raw power, strike, offense and defence when they put forth the mixed martial art fans a bout between Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller.
UFC televised its first pay-per-view on FX channel by the name UFC on FX and the event was headlined by an epic clash between two of the most versatile, talented young men. The octagonal ring was setup at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The fight
between the two men was anticipated to be the most brutal since Melvin had a clear upper hand on his age fellow Jim.
Melvin, a brown belt in Judo and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu had thrown himself in the Octagonal ring a whopping 41 times. He outclassed 29 of his competitors either by submission, knock out or unanimous decision but the story is not finished here
yet. The 28-year-old young gun is being denoted as the 15th best light welterweight fighter in the world whereas mixed martial art weekly magazine places him at seventh place.
Guillard, nicknamed as the young assassin truly has proved that he is ruthless and he leaves no mercy when it comes to punching and striking the opponent but he has amidst on this glaring and fierce resume a huge weakness, he lacks an appropriate level of
defence against submission manoeuvres. On the other hand is his competitor, Jim Miller, who owns a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Jim since the inception of his mixed martial art career has been into 23 bouts and came out victorious 20 times. He has let just 3 opponents take him down in the octagonal ring. If Melvin is famous for his ferocious striking and remorseless punching Jim
is well known for his submission techniques and efficiency.
A look at Jim’s stats clearly shows that he has won most of his encounters by submissions, to be specific 12. A clash between two opponents who lacked each other’s apex technique was considered a totally great show. It is this reason why from the very beginning
of the bell Melvin started leashing his punches on his fellow American.
Melvin’s striking capability is impressive his probability of striking on his opponent is 46 percent whereas he can bring down his rival at a probability of 47 percent. His lacking area is submission, where he is able to just make 7 percent of his opponents
submits and that is only possible if he takes them down otherwise he Melvin goes for the direct straight hit.
Jim is totally a ground player he tries to make his competitor submit by pain and hence has a submission ratio of 60 percent. His takedown and striking percentages are 22 percent and 17 percent respectively. The fight was between the best striker and the
submission specialist. The bout started and Melvin as predicted threw 13 electrified powerful punches towards Jim as compared to his 3.
But the fight ended in a climax just after the passage of 1st round’s 2 minutes and 4 seconds Jim took advantage of a slight mistake and brought down the young assassin on the ring floor, grabbed him in a rear-naked choke and made the striker tap out. The
win was totally unexpected for Melvin but his game plan was not flawless since he did not take care of his weakness well and got stung by his own deficiency.
This will be Melvin’s second consecutive defeat, Jim on the other hand has came out victorious and has improved his stats to 21 wins and just 3 losses. Jim’s perfection is evident from the fact that his submission won the UFC FX’s inaugural show’s submission
of the night award.
