Jimmer Fredette works out with the Indiana Pacers - NBA draft Update
On Tuesday, the promising Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars guard Jimmer Fredette carried out his first pre draft workout for the Indiana Pacers. The drill didn’t turn out to be as easy for the young point guard and he was
seen a little out of breath.
"This was my first workout so it was a little tiring. We went really hard for about an hour and 15 minutes straight through. That's what happens; you get tired when you do a workout like that." Fredette said after the workout.
Pacers’ president and legend Larry Bird accompanied by some team officials were present at the work out to examine the rather famed talent of Fredette. Four more potential picks worked out with Jimmer on the day. The players included
Kansas’s Marcus Morris, Duke’s Nolan Smith, Florida’s Vernon Macklin and Tennessee’s Tobias Harris.
Fredette had a phenomenal four year college career with BYU and has emerged out as one of the hottest commodities in this year’s draft. During his senior year, 2010-2011, Jimmer took his game to another level and established himself
as a consistent scoring threat. Due to his flawless shooting in his last college season, the versatile guard was named as the best scorer in the college league.
Duke University point guard Smith who was doing the drills along with Fredette, however said that the BYU star was not just a prolific scorer.”You're worried about his shot, but he keeps you on your toes because he can keep it
on the ground just as well,"
Fredette started all the 37 games in his last season for the Cougars and averaged 28.9 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 boards during the 2011 National College Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament.
Standing at 6 ft 2in, Jimmer may not have the advantage of a dominating physique; however his agility and strength are incomparable. He carries the potential to spark a team in the front court and a team like Indiana, which thrives
on its offensive prowess, could be an ideal destination for him.
"I think the biggest thing will just be getting used to the athleticism and speed of the game. A lot of rookies hit the wall because they're not used to playing that many games. So my job is to try to get in the best condition
I can be and try to play at the speed for 82 games."
Jimmer is one of the most exciting and dominating players in this year’s draft and many teams have their eyes set on him. Utah Jazz is expected to draft Fredette if they don’t go for a big man with their third overall pick.
