Jimmy Conrad retires from active play, eyes the CD Chivas USA youth academy - MLS News
It was a sad day at The Home Depot Center as the Major League Soccer star and CD http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jimmy-Conrad-c18555, parted ways with the league and announced retirement from active play on Thursday, August 18.
The announcement came in a press conference after the Goats’ training session. The player revealed his recent injuries as they reason behind his decision.
“I spoke to people that are close to me, like my family, but mainly it was the doctors and coaches who helped me come to this conclusion,” Conrad said in the press conference. “They informed me that it was probably in my best interest to retire after six
documented concussions.”
The announcement marked Conrad’s 12 years in the league starting at the age of 22 with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Jose-Earthquakes-c40434 in 1999.
After spending three years in California, the player moved to the Eastern Conference, where he joined Sporting Kansas City (formerly known as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kansas-City-Wizards-c39666). The player remained with the Wiz from 2003 to 2010, sporting their jersey a respectable 204
times. Despite being a defender, the player scored 17 goals during his time in Kansas.
Conrad was bought by the Rojiblancos in the re-entry draft prior to the season. However, the player became prone to head injuries and could only don the Goats jersey twice in the current term.
His latest injury, received against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colorado-Rapids-c38849 on March 26, proved decisive. Although he has been cleared by the medical staff to play for Robin Fraser, they could not assure the player of the consequences should the injury happen again.
“The doctors couldn’t tell me what was going to happen if I suffered another concussion, what the long-term damage would be,” Conrad explained. “I still have symptoms. I still have a headache that comes and goes. They basically said that retiring is probably
what I should do.”
The stalwart further announced his intensions of joining the Chivas’ youth academy as a head supervisor. He said he always wanted to bring up the young talent in the country and plans on making the Chivas academy one of the best in the region.
