Jimmy Creed, the safest bet in Xpressbet Breeders´ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita
In Saturday’s Xpressbet Breeders´ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita, the leaders are highly likely to go too quick. On fast six furlongs, any overtaking will be very difficult. However, one will have to come up with an extraordinary effort in order to bag the big prize of £580,645.
A total of 14 horses have entered the race, and all are mighty talented. It will be very important to take a handsome lead early on, but even if Trinniberg fails to do this, his connections will not be worried at all. Shivananda Parbhoo’s 3-year-old has a squeak of getting his own way. And especially in the first-time blinkers, he surely has a great chance of doing a wonderful job.
Yet, we don’t recommend him for the first rank. According to our calculations, Jimmy Creed is a safer bet, as he is open to improvement after doing well on his first dirt spin. After making a couple of wonderful trips on Polytrack, the 3-year-old made his debut on dirt recently.
Despite being under tremendous amount of pressure, the Richard E. Mandella-trained maintained the standards to secure the third place in the Grade 1, Santa Anita Sprint Championship (Formerly Ancient Title Stakes) here last month.
It was a very tough competition. Under G. K. Gomez, he broke well, and chased two clear leaders. The dashing runner switched inside, and went 4th approaching the final furlong. He stayed on well to take third close home.
Although the 7-1 chance could not trouble the leading pair, beating the 4-5 favourite, Amazombie, by half a length was a huge achievement. He missed the runner-up spot only by a head’s distance. Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, the son of Distorted Humor is likely to build on his good dirt run and produce a positive result this time around.
Gantry has won half of his eight starts, but times are not quick enough. Coil was an impressive Grade 1 winner last time, but the finishing time was not special. Smiling Tiger has the ability to pull off an upset if rediscovering the best. Hamazing Destiny was second in this in 2010, and captured the fifth place last year. But we don’t expect him to make an impact this time.
