Jimmy Haslam seeks revival of rivalry between Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ new owner Jimmy Haslam has spoken of revival of real competition between the American Football Conference (AFC) North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, although he is yet to hint at where his loyalties will lie.
The truck-stop magnet also has small ownership share in the Steelers and he is a boasted diehard fan of the team but since taking over full ownership of the Browns, there is a question mark where his loyalty and blessing lie.
It nevertheless will be a win-win situation for him no matter which team wins and which losses.
Historically, the Browns have been weaker opposition if compared with the Pittsburgh Steelers but in their last encounter they proved they can be tougher sometimes.
Also, almost all commentators see Haslam working fulltime on the Browns’ project and if he is able to find right people in administration and management and invests in quality of talent, the Browns have the potential to become new Steelers.
The Browns have shown to be not a bad side at all. They usually end up winning five or six games in a season and if they are able to find a talented offence leader their 50 percent problems should stand resolved.
It is pertinent to note that running back Trent Richardson is very talented player indeed and quarterback Brandon Weeden is not a bad talent either, but a little help from coaches and mentors can make them star performers at their positions.
It is to be seen what sort of plans Jimmy brings in for the Browns, especially on the quality talent, as earlier said this area should be the main concern for him. As long as he is willing to take care of that aspect of the game, the Browns should be able
to produce desired numbers and beat any side in the league.
The Steelers are also squared as far as their offence is concerned. With Big Ben increasingly becoming old horse, sustaining him on the field is very difficult for the player and also for the team.
So they find themselves betting on young horses and going through a phase of transition to groom future talent. They can face a slump in performance for a year or two at least to become a competitive side once again.
