Jimmy King Of The Fabulous Five To Appear In Court Over Child Support Case – NBA Update
The recent arrest case of Michigan’s Fabulous Five star, Jimmy King, has seen further development and the player is scheduled to appear in court. The former star was detained earlier this month on charges that accused him of not
paying for child support.
King was taken into custody at New St. Mark Baptist Church in Detroit, where Jimmy was conducting a basketball camp for young children. The lead to his arrest came through a leaflet around the area, which incorporated information
regarding King’s participation in the camp.
Allegedly, the agents from the Attorney General’s office tried to contact King several times since 2008 with warnings to get back on the payment schedule; however, they received no reply from the former Fabulous Five star.
It has been estimated that the 38 year old failed to pay $17209 for the support of one child. However, King said that after being arrested earlier this month, he was trying his best to settle the claim with the concerned authorities.
"We are working with the attorney general's office," King stated in an interview. "We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that this is taken care of. I'm just going to continue doing what I'm doing to support my
family."
In Jimmy’s defence, his lawyer Andrew Abood stated that the Fabulous Five star had already paid around $60,000 in support of his son, who is seventeen years of age.
It is reported that the maximum prison time for such a violation could last up to four years. However, such disputes are usually settled by involving the parents of the concerned party.
King is next scheduled to be in court on September 9th, for an initial hearing.
Jimmy King was part of Michigan’s Fabulous Five, which included the likes of Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose and Ray Jackson. Together, not only were they able to qualify for the final four of the NCAA basketball tournament,
they are remembered as having revolutionized the game at the college level.
King joined the Toronto Raptors in 1995 where he was chosen as the 35th draft pick. During his time at the Raptors he only bagged an average of 4.5 points per game and 1.4 assists per game. Jimmy could only manage two
seasons in the league after which he went on to become a radio analyst for the U-M games.
His former teammate, Jalen Rose, was also in the news earlier this month after he was sentenced to 20 days in prison on account of first time drunk driving.
King currently manages his personal business by the name of J King Solar Technologies, which supplies solar apparatus to both household as well as commercial usage.
