Jimmy Robertson beats Tony Drago Qualifiers Round 3 of 2011 World Snooker Championship
Tony Drago lost against Jimmy Robertson by a frame score of 10-8 in the qualifiers round 3 of the 2011 World Snooker Championship held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England.
The Maltese Falcon, Tony Drago, despite of making a late comeback has crashed. He could not even produce a single century break during the match. However, the relatively less experienced Bexhill cueman, Jimmy Robertson, on the same note gave an accomplishment
performance.
The overall score line between the players was 27-97, 0-80, 37-62, 54-65, 58-50, 81-32, 10-116, 71-56, 23-56, 62-29, 23-64, 6-107, 17-65, 63-61, 80-57, 75-6, 62-48, and 12-69.
Drago was a total spectator in the opening session as Robertson stormed into a 4-0 lead before the interval. He enjoyed breaks of 68, 51, and 36 in the meanwhile.
After the interval, Drago responded in the first two frames with dominant breaks of 33 and 61 to reduce his opponents lead by 4-2 before he was again given a blow in the next. Robertson produced a mind boggling match-highest century break of 111 in the seventh
frame. Drago however showed no reeling effects even though and took the eighth with a couple of quick fires, 28 and 39, but he lost the ninth again.
Starting the evening session with a 6-3 deficit, Drago, managed in winning the scrappy first frame without doing anything outstanding before Robertson again pocketed three frames straight firing up classy breaks of 37, 89, and 60 respectively to extend his
leave by 9-4.
The match was almost through as Robertson only needed only frame to win but the life was again brought back in the match when Drago who was unable to perform otherwise, bounced back with all of his zeal, energy and strength and won four consecutive frames.
He used his vast experience and flawless safety skills to come within one frame at 9-8.
It looked as if he believed he could pull one of the great escapes for which the World Championship is renowned but he lost control of his emotions in the eighteenth frame after a break of 12 and when the chance presented itself, Robertson slotted a decisive
break of 65 to seal his victory by 10-8.
The Robbo, Jimmy Robertson, who has never been to the televise stages, has now reached the final qualifying round of the world championship where he will face the 1997 world champion Ken Doherty to battle out for the most prestigious event.
