Jimmy Robertson edges past China’s Zhou Yuelong in wild card round of 2012 Haikou World Open
England’s Jimmy Robertson made a scintillating run against the young Chinese, Zhou Yuelong and breezed past him by the score line of 5-2 to book his first-round spot in 2012 Haikou World Open.
The 25-year-old Robertson had a tremendous qualifying session as he cruised into the wild card round after ousting Andrew Norman by 5-2 in Round 2, Ken Doherty by 5-4 in Round 3 and Rory McLeod by 5-3 in Round 4. His wild card clash against the 14-year-old
Yuelong was even easier for him to make his way into the televised stages of the 2012 Haikou World Open.
The clash seemed an easy game for the Englishman as he fired into 2-0 lead in no time. He dominated the first frame with a stunning clearance of 77 points when he was 1-10 down to the Chinese. He ran into a 2-0 lead after he pocketed a superb knock of 89
points in the second frame.
The Chinese potter bounced back into the game at the start of Frame 3. He potted a fine clearance of 60 points to move within one frame up at 2-1. Robertson missed an opportunity in the fourth frame and let the youngster at the table who smashed two decent
breaks of 30 and 46 to pull level at 2-2.
After that, Robertson dominated the table in the next three frames and shot three cracking knocks of 22, 74 and 43 to cruise into the victory by 5-2. The Chinese young potter had no chance to capitalise during the last three frames and tumbled down against
the Englishman.
While speaking to the World Snooker after his victory, Robertson said, “I didn't know much about him so I googled him when I saw the draw. He's a good player and he could play but I felt I played pretty well myself.”
Robertson will next meet the 2011 UK Championship finalist, compatriot Mark Allen in the initial round of 2012 Haikou World Open. Their match-up will commence on Wednesday, February 29 at the Haikou Stadium in Hainan Island.
Meanwhile, China’s Lu Ning defeated England’s Nigel Bond in a tussling wild card clash by the score line of 5-4 to set up Mark Selby encounter in the first round.
