Jimmy Rollins called Philadelphia fans front-runners?

I completely disagree, but I'm also a Phillies fan. So do you agree or disagree with Rollins about Phillies fans? And what other cities fans come to mind when you hear the term front-runners?

For me I would have to say the Florida Marlins have many front-running fans. In the two seasons the Marlins have won World Series', I don't think fans actually started showing up to the their stadium until September.

  1. I have been a fan since I can remember, almost always through horrible or frustrating seasons.  But if I had guys like Dykstra playing his heart out Utley who does now adays and at least keeps his mouth shut, I could at least feel well represented.  Jimmy can get the heck out for all I care now.  I know it would hurt our team but too bad.  If he doesn't have loyalty and doesn't yet know what it takes to play here then I don't want him.

  2. Tough to be front runners when we are rarely in front.

    Enjoy playing in Oakland Jimmy.

  3. Every team and every sport has front runner fans.

  4. I disagree, I am 20 minutes from Philly and a complete die hard Phillie's "Phan". Just look at Hamilton from the Rangers. There's a front runner.

  5. Jimmy needs to understand that some fans are die hard, some are front runners, and some are causual.  He also needs to understand that effort (run out fly balls), and team (be on the bus) are part of what Philly fans see as dedication.

We are die hard for our team.  Play and ACT the same and the fans will always be there.  We respect people who back up their mouth (last year MVP and division title), not who now seem to bring a sense of entitlement to the field.

  6. yes I agree. The Marlins are in the thick of the race and don't draw well.

  7. I'm a Phillies fan whether they are good or not.

"In the two seasons the Marlins have won World Series', I don't think fans actually started showing up to the their stadium until September."

To be fair, it's hotter than h**l there in the summer. Makes sitting at a game not so fun.

  8. I don't know who the h*ll he thinks he is calling Philly fans front-runners.  Incase he hasn't noticed, WE'RE not the ones who show up late to important practices and don't hustle or make an effort.  Rollins is blaming his poor performance on the Philly fans and I personally take that as a stereotypical insult.

  9. I don't think a player should call out his fans like that. It's stupid.

  10. Every team has every type of fan

  11. I disagree with Rollins but you really can't compare the two teams (Phillies vs Marlins) because of the history and climate.  The front runner fan award goes to Colorado Rockies...the worst after that Arizona or Atlanta

  12. Jimmy Rollins really needs to keep his mouth shut! Honestly i never care what the players say because they are probably saying stuff they dont mean.

Yankees, Redsox, Rays, Marlins come to mind the most. Especially rays and marlins since they got good.

  13. YES!!!!!!!!!! GO Phillies! I'm a fan of 'em to =0   . but i think it's a disagree and a agree. Thanks, (finally, i find a phillies fan ;) )

       I hoped i helped with the agree/disagree

    Thanks.

  14. I am so glad you asked this question!!! I am absolutely heated right no about this, so this may be a little jumbled and thrown together, but I'll try my hardest to organize it. haha

    1. Where the H-E-&-! did this come from? He's been on the west coast, and he only chooses to call us out when he's 3,000 miles away.

    2. How are Philadelphia fans frontrunners?!!! CBP has 40-something sellouts this year, even when their offense has been in so many slumps it actually cancels out the times they manage to hit the ball.

    3. Phillies fans have been waiting 28 years now for a World Series Championship. 15 for a noteable playoff appearance. When a team has some of the best players in baseball, yet they're STILL coming out mediocre, wouldn't anyone be mad??

    4. He has no right to criticize the fans when he is having a below average season himself. He should know that the team has the capability of winning the division, no questions asked. Yet, when they don't play to their potential, he has to transfer the blame. Our BIG HEADED reigning NL MVP should be leading our team. Yet, now he thinks he's done his job. He's CLEARLY too good for Philadelphia if he won MVP.

    5. Rollins has always had a big mouth. Some hate him for it. Others love him. Those few who love him for it, are his fans. Now he goes out and insults those who respect him? How does that work?!

Rollins hasn't been the same since he was given MVP. He's in tons of commercials, thinks he can make up his own rules and show up whenever he wants to, doesn't hustle like he used to, doesn't play as hard as he used to, and he is now playing for fame and glory. We don't need ANYONE like that. Yeah, we may be taking a loss by losing him (not that he's going anywhere, just thought I'd add that in), but I most definitely wouldn't think twice about sending him elsewhere. The loyal fans don't need to support, let alone pay to see, millionaires who are going to insult us. He was so out of line.

Okay I'm done rambling, haha. But he is comletely wrong. Some may be like that, but no more than other teams, and he has no reason to call the whole fan base out for it. The Rockies definitely come to mind, as well as the Marlins and Rays.

I have no clue why he thought this would make the situation with us "frontrunners" any better. haha I absolutely GARUNTEE that when he comes up to bat tuesday at home, he'll get booed and he'll smile. My respect for him just disappeared.

  15. Jim I was going to ask this exact question this morning..When I heard JRoll say that I was astounded. If I saw Jimmy today I'd go up to him and say "Jimmy,OUR Phils have won ONE Championship in our HISTORY and that dates back to the 1800s.Cut us some slack if were angry."I'd also tell him to show up on time and run out fly balls.I wouldn't think that was alot to ask of the current MVP.How can he compare the Phils fans to Cards fans(Arguably the best in baseball and have won more then a few Championships,10)

The Braves are the worst when it comes to fans. They can't even sellout playoff games.Atlanta I always say is the WORST major sports city in the States. At least with Florida it hasn't been around for many years and their stadium is the worst in baseball..Reminds me of the Vet with grass.

  16. Based on home-field attendance, I would disagree. A quick check of the numbers shows that since the opening of Citizens Bank Park, fan attendance averages around 38K per game. The numbers for the last years of Veteran's Stadium are a little lower but still in the respectable hi-20's. Not exactly band-wagoner numbers. I think it's more the extremes of expression, both positive and negative, of the Philadelphia sports fan that has JRoll's perception a little skewed.

For front-runner fans, I'd have to go with both the Braves and the Marlins.
