Jimmy Rollins happy with new deal allowing him to remain at Philadelphia Phillies -MLB Update
Jimmy Rollins and the Philadelphia Phillies were certainly in an off position during the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason as it was rumouring that the veteran player would be leaving for the upcoming season but signing a three-year deal worth a
cool $33 million was good enough for the player to stay back and enjoy another few years.
Being a Philadelphia Phillies for the past 12 seasons, leaving the team was not something Jimmy Rollins wanted to do deep down in his heart but circumstances were such that it would have been inevitable unless a miracle was to happen.
The reason was that the Milwaukee Brewers were also believed to be a front running team in acquiring the player and were also reported to be offering him a longer and bigger contract, somewhere in the four-year range.
Philadelphia was able to match that offer and gave Rollins a team option for another year at the same price he will spend with them for the three seasons, keeping him through the 2016 regular season.
"You have to take everything into consideration," Rollins said. "When you've been somewhere since you were 17 and go somewhere new, you get there as a new player. And in my situation, in the second part of my career, to get somewhere new and feel like you're
a rented player, you weren't part of the process of building this team up. Here in Philadelphia, from the first day I got to the big leagues, it was a matter of making this team a contender and eventually a champion.
Having played 142 games last season along with 567 at-bats, 87 runs, a 2.68 batting average and 16 home runs, Jimmy Rollins is indeed a valuable player and losing him would require the Philadelphia management to take into consideration a new addition which
would result in time being wasted in adjustment issues and such other problems.
Keeping Jimmy Rollins is not only beneficial to the player but also to the team that has high hopes for the next season and are thinking big about making it to the championship level when they get the chance.
