Jimmy Rollins helps Philadelphia Phillies defeat Florida Marlins 5-3 - Part 2
The Philadelphia Phillies were successful in defeating the Florida Marlins in the third game of their series in Sun Life Stadium, Florida. The Phillies had previously won the first match of the series whereas the Marlins were victorious in the second one.
The game picked up after Cliff Lee was taken out by Ross Gload. Before that it was the Marlins who had put up numbers on the score board but things changed after that as the Phillies ended up defeating Florida 5-3 to snatch an unexpected win.
"It was a game it didn't look like we were going to win until the end," Pete Orr said.
Lee was clearly disappointed to be taken out of the match so soon but it was him going back to the dugout that triggered a chain reaction from the rest of the players. "I didn't want to come out of the game," he said. "I never want to come out of a game.
In the National League, that happens. We won. That's all that really matters."
The Marlins ended up losing their series against the Phillies. This defeat marks the ninth defeat they have suffered at the hands of Philadelphia with the lone exception being the game they won against Roy Halladay. "Baseball is weird," Ricky Nolasco said.
"We lost two of three, but we always battle against these guys. We'll see them again."
The first run of the game came from the Marlins side in the very first inning. Hanley Ramirez belted out a home-run to left-field that flew 405 feet.
The next run came in the sixth inning when John Buck singled to left-field and Emilio Bonifacio scored while moving Ramirez to third base and Gaby Sanchez to second.
Another run was gained in the sixth inning by Florida when Mike Stanton hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field off which Ramirez scored.
The Phillies could not manage a single run before the seventh inning, but they were on fire right after that. Orr doubled to extreme right-field and Raul Ibanez scored off it marking the first run of the game from the Phillies’ side. During the action, Dane
Sardinha moved to third base successfully.
The next run came in the same inning as Ross Gload grounded to first base off which Sardinha scored effectively moving Orr to third base.
The eighth inning was met with Shane Victorino belting out a home-run that crossed a distance of 372 feet.
Jimmy Rollins finished off the match by singling to right-field in the ninth inning off which Sardinha and Orr scored, moving Rollins to second base on the advancing throw.
It will be interesting to see how the Phillies carry their winning momentum into their next match-up.
