Jimmy Rollins may be traded to Los Angeles Dodgers as they show interest - MLB Update
So far shortstop Jimmy Rollins has struggled to justify with the contract he was awarded by the Philadelphia Phillies in December. Worth $33 million he was ensured a three-year deal but he has been unable to live up to the expectations of the management.
This can make him one of the candidates to be traded as the Phillies head to becoming a seller in the season. Standing at the lowest position on the Division table, they are extremely disappointed with the performance of some of their players.
Furthermore, they suffer a dearth of Minor League prospects, which also mean that the players that have floundered this year may be replaced with new prospects. For this, the timing before the trade deadline of July 31 will be crucial.
In light of this, the fact Los Angeles Dodgers have shown interest in taking Jimmy Rollins, the Phillies may be considering it seriously. Although the negotiations have yet to get underway in this regard, one will not be surprised to hear about the Phillies
responding to their interest right away.
Meanwhile, it is not for the first time the Dodgers have hinted their leanings toward Rollins. As a shortstop, he has been among their top choices, but an injury by their shortstop Dee Gordon now has kind of accelerated an effort from their part for finding
an appropriate replacement.
Dodgers’ first-base coach Davey Lopes, had stated last month that Rollins, despite being volatile with regard to performance, has been such a force for the Phillies that whenever he shines on plate, the organisation have won.
"The key to that [Phillies] ballclub has always been Rollins, as far as I'm concerned," Lopes had uttered. "When Jimmy rolls, they roll."
This further indicates what the Dodgers see in Rollins from their perspective and how they think he can help them in the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, they may be fancying a far improved performance from him once he returns to a team, which has been tremendous this year. The fact the Phillies as a team have struggled may have bogged down his ability to prove being a quality hitter.
This can motivate the Los Angeles Dodgers to try and acquire Rollins.
