Jimmy Rollins says Philadelphia Phillies can win Division title next year - MLB Update
Shortstop for Philadelphia Phillies, Jimmy Rollins firmly believes that they can win Division title next year after they lost it to Washington Nationals during 2012 regular season. The Phillies ruled the National League East for the last five years by winning
the Division titles.
Losing it after such a long time was disheartening for the Phillies’ fans. As they are used to experiencing the glory, they were dejected after their team put up a below par performance throughout the last season.
Rollins is of the view that they will not let the Nationals rule the Division for a long time period. He draws his optimism from the fact that by the time the Phillies see most of their players fit, they perform extremely well.
Citing the late season recovery in 2012 by Philadelphia, Rollins says it happened because of the return of their injured players in the team.
Rollins has explained that if the Phillies go with their full strength in 2013, they will not face many problems in restoring their dominance in the Division.
Rollins won Gold Glove Award at shortstop from National League this year. Apart from the defence, he stepped up offensively on a number of occasions for the team.
Most of the Phillies’ players are frustrated at the moment as they are h**l-bent to ensure the glory for their team in the upcoming season. Rollins has mentioned this while talking about the ability of the Phillies to bounce back.
"Everyone's a little angry," Rollins said. "which is good to get a chip on your shoulder and just go back out there and prove that this is still our division, but not only that, but that we're still World Champions."
Strong teams always learn from the mistakes and put up strong performances following their unimpressive season. Similarly, the Phillies are going to dethrone the Nationals in 2013 if their players remain healthy.
"It still runs through Philly," Rollins said. "[Washington] had one year to win it. It was just like when the Mets took it from Atlanta, it was still up for grabs.”
Rollins will be focusing on his individual performance and will try to make sure he does not repeat the mistakes that he committed during the last season.
