Jimmy Rollins shines as Philadelphia Phillies beat Florida Marlins, 5-3: MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies’ short-stop, Jimmy Rollins, had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit two RBIs in the Phillies’ 5-3 victory over the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium in Florida on May 11.
The Marlins had a worst win-loss record against the Phillies as they lost nine out of 10 games and won only one game. The Phillies passed through miserable moments as their catcher, Carlos Ruiz, missed the last few games due to lower-back inflammation. Now,
he is on the disabled list and the team officials are waiting for his comeback.
The Marlins took the initial 1-0-lead in the first inning when Hanley Ramirez gave them a good start as he hit a one-run homer towards the left-centre field. Ramirez has a good season so far, as he continued to increase his hitting-streaks.
The second to fifth inning passed away without score. During sixth inning, the Marlins extended their lead to 3-0 when Ramirez took an RBI single and Emilio Bonifacio completed one run off the right-field. Ramirez went 2-for-4 with the bat and made two runs
for his team. On the other side, the Phillies went scoreless till the sixth inning.
The Phillies broke their silence in the seventh inning when Pete Orr, who played his first game after a long time, made two doubles to cut his team’s deficit to 3-2 and went 2-for-2 with the bat. Shane Victorino also played a crucial role for his team as
he hit an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. The Phillies catcher Brian Schneider was unable to add a run and was replaced by Dane Sardinha, who made one single with two-out.
Ross Gload contributed one run in the ninth inning to take their lead to 5-3. The Phillies’ starter, Cliff Lee, was economical with his pitches as he threw six innings and gave away three runs on seven hits including three earned runs. He did not give a
walk to any Marlins’ batter and had four strike-outs.
Ricky Nolasco pitched well, but not enough to snatch a win for his team. He allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/2 inning pitches.
