Jimmy Rollins stays with Philadelphia Phillies for three-years, $33 million -MLB Update
$11 million a year did the job for the Philadelphia Phillies as they pushed to keep veteran shortstop, Jimmy Rollins, on the team for another few seasons as he signed on with the team for three-years, $33 million along with the a vested option for the fourth
season.
The option could keep Rollins on the Phillies for another year through 2015 for $11 million that is if he manages to stay healthy and the team wants to continue using his services for the lump sum.
Earlier, it was thought that Rollins was looking to join another team during the offseason as the Phillies were not believed to have offered the player what he was looking for but now it looks as if both have reached a mutual agreement.
Now that all is done and over with, Rollins and the team are happy that the dust can now settle down and they can focus on more important things instead of working out deals.
"I wasn't upset at the pace," Rollins said. "I was glad it took awhile, because both sides were showing that they care. This is a business. There is a sports side of it and a business side of it, and the business side of it is always the most difficult part.
Making sure that the numbers fit and the years fit and that both parties can be happy going forward is how business is. This is where we both sit, and both parties feel comfortable going forward.
Rollins added that he would not let down and the same was said for the Phillies, which was the main reason why the process of a few days went on for weeks and up until now. It is believed that the deal was going to be a two-year one before but Rollins wanted
a extra year or two.
The Milwaukee Brewers also put an offer on Rollins table but looking at he has spent his entire career with Philadelphia, leaving them now would only mean adjustment problems in the last few seasons he has on his plate.
As Rollins and Philadelphia are on the same page now, both can look towards a more progressive and optimistic future together.
