Jimmy Walker back in White Sulphur Springs for the Greenbrier Classic
Jimmy Walker is set to make the third start in the Greenbrier Classic at the Old White TPC, in White Sulphur Springs, scheduled to start on Thursday, July 5, 2012.
Walker is among the hot favourites for a win because of his stunning track record in the tournament, as he tied for the fourth position in the last two editions.
According to him, he always enjoys to participate in the event because of the course conditions, which suit his style of playing.
“I like it. I enjoy the golf course. It fits my eye really well,” he said. “The hotel has been awesome. I think it's really grown in the eyes of the players”.
“I think you can tell by the field this year. It's gained some notoriety. The town's great, the hotel is amazing, food is second to none, the service and all the fans and volunteers are great here and I felt at home here”.
He added by saying that the course conditions are completely different compared to the last two years. The Greenbrier officials made several changes in the past two years, including the expansion of the course and making the greens harder to play on.
“It was different the first year we played here,” Walker said after playing the practice round on Wednesday. “The greens were real soft and real receptive. It was a lot shorter golf course”.
Walker has played a total of 18 PGA Tour events so far in the current season and managed to make the cut 14 times.
In the opening six starts, he recorded three top-10 finishes. However, he lost his form afterwards, as his best finish came in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, presented by MasterCard, where he tied for the 24th position.
He added by saying that the tournament has been successful in attracting some of the biggest names in the world of golf.
Last week, he was tied for the 32nd place in the AT&T National, an event hosted by the legendary Tiger Woods.
Woods is also an addition to this year’s edition of the event, which will help boost the tournament’s image.
