Jimmy Walker is two strokes behind Phil Mickelson in the second round of Northern Trust Open
Jimmy Walker is two strokes behind the leader Phil Mickelson, after the completion of the second round in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades in California.
Walker, the 33-year-old American professional golf player, is playing and giving his best at the tournament against the top ranked players of the world.
"I feel good," Walker said. "I'd still like to drive it a little better this weekend, so I'll work on that. But I really like Riviera. It's got a lot of history, it's a great golf course".
He is striving to record his debut win at PGA (Professional Golf Association), but glory is yet to be attained.
The Nationwide Tour leading money winner and Player of the Year of 2004 only won three professional events in his career at the Nationwide Tour.
Walker improved his game and is currently competing well against his rivals. His impressive performance of a 4-under par and 138 helped him reach the third position tie with five other professionals.
"Yesterday it was tough with everything going on," Walker said. "Today the wind was up early and then it just quit, then it would go again, switch back and forth. It would switch directions completely, so you had to really kind of stay on top of it".
The weather on Thursday was unfavourable due to heavy winds, 35 mile per hour was recorded on Thursday. Due to the windy conditions, most of the players faced difficulties while scoring.
However, Walker amazingly delivered his best performance of this season at Riviera Country Club. He is playing his sixth tournament of the PGA 2012 season and is doing very well.
To reach near the top positions is commendable, given the tough competition. He is only two strokes behind the renowned leader of the tournament, Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson stroked a 6-under 136 and successfully maintained the first position from day one of the tournament. His performance at Riviera Country Club is really impressive.
He scored 8 birdies, an eagle and 23 pars in two rounds. He covered an average of 300.3 yards driving distance with 53.6 accuracy.
Walker is happy to see his name on the third position. He is also hoping to deliver his best, so that he can win his first PGA title.
However, Mickelson's scores are not easy to be matched. If he wants to win, then he needs to be more impressive, scoring more birdies and fewer bogeys.
