Jimmy Walker takes lead at Wyndham
Starting the day four shots adrift of Carl Petterson, Jimmy Walker shot a stunning second round 62 to take the lead at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. Meanwhile over night’s leader, Carl Petterson shot 68 in the second round.
Highlight of Walker’s performance were his short game. His approaches and putts were pretty sublime, as he scored eight birdies on the second day.
Earlier in the year, Walker had some injury issues after the US Open but performances like these mean that he is slowly getting back in to form.
"I was playing with J.B. (Holmes), and he was bombing the driver everywhere, and I was just kind of bunting the 5-wood around and hitting good approach shots," Walker said.
However, he was not much impressed about the fact that everyone was using woods all around because that makes this game boring.
"It was pretty boring-looking golf — not a lot of drivers, not a lot of 3-woods. There is a lot of 5-woods and some irons, and it is just kind of placement around the golf course."
Former champion, Carl Pettersson did not have the best of rounds on Friday.
"I struggled today," Pettersson said. "Did not have much today, but I thought it was a good comeback. … Two-under par was OK for the game that I had, and hopefully I can hit the ball better on the weekend and have a chance."
Meanwhile Webb Simpson is continuing his way up, in the second round he shot an excellent 63. All these are good signs for him as he finally is starting to look a little better.
Simpson had a bogey free round, he was extremely jubilant after shooting a flawless round. This now means that Simpson is just a stroke behind Jimmy.
The South African, Tim Clark shot 67 and seems to be fairly in control of his game. He along with Sergio Garcia, Carl Pettersson and Harris English are tied at three.
David Mathis had a poor round as he shot 71, a mammoth effort will be need by him on the weekend to have any chance of making it into the FedEx top 125 list.
