Jimmy Wang defeats Hyeon Chung in the second round – Seoul Challenger 2012 CH
Seventh seeded, Jimmy Wang, outmuscled the local challenger, Hyeon Chung, in the second round of the Samsung Securities Cup Challenger 2012 held at the hard courts of Deco Turf in Seoul, Korea. The Twanese professional consolidated
his straight sets victory at 6-2, 6-2 on the eve of Wednesday, taking approximately one hour and 31 minutes.
The wild card entrant, Chung, had a sloppy beginning in the initial set and was unable to preserve his opening serve. The Korean rival was firm about the belief that he would clinch the victory and nudged forward to claim the initial
two games. Chung started to up pick pace in the third game when he cashed in a break opportunity and evened out the score line to 2-2 in the very next game. Higher ranked Wang strived to regain his former lead and busted the Chinese serve in the sixth game
to crumble his confidence. He sustained his poise and fired powerful serves, bagging one game after the other. Eventually, Wang broke his rival’s serve in the eighth game and stamped a 6-2 lead by the end of the opener.
In the second set, none of the contenders was able to preserve their serve. The 16-year-old maintained a clean sheet and launched a competitive battle against his opponent in the first half of the set. The world number 166, Wang,
battled to take hold of the winning momentum. He thundered his challenger with powerful forehands and outstanding serve preservation. He maintained his impetus until the end and closed the match with a 6-2 win.
The 16-year-old Korean native manifested 42 percent with five of 11 first and five of 15 second delivery points. From the two serve break opportunities, he capitalized on just one and his opponent grabbed three of four. In comparison
to that, the right-hander Chinese secured 38 percent initial serve with eight of 11 first and nine of 18 second delivery points.
For the next match, he will face his compatriot, Ji Sung Nam. He prevailed over Yuki Bhambri in the first round of the ATP Challenger.
