Jimmy Wang edges past Suk-Young Jeong in the second round – 2012 Green World ATP Challenger
Sixth seed Jimmy Wang stomped over the South Korean contestant, Suk-Young Jeong, in straight sets at the 2012 Green World ATP Challenger on Thursday. He summed up a 7-5, 7-5 victory over the 18-year-old to advance into the quarter-finals at this hard court
event taking place in Pingguo, China.
The world number 209, Wang, remained focused throughout the match to oust the Korean in two hours and 12 minutes. As a result, the Taiwanese assertively secured a spot in the final eight.
Wang thundered into this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event and leaped at 3-0 with a break of serve. He held his composure after that and regardless of losing his edge in the ninth game, the Taiwanese capitalised on another break
chance in the last game to pocket the opener by winning seven games to five.
The 27-year-old lost his track in the following set and gifted away his serve in the opening game. However, he made a fitting reply after that and went on a five-game killing spree. Wang was serving to pull out the set with a breadstick but lost his concentration.
He lost his following two serves and eventually levelled the scores at 5-5. However, the Taiwanese cashed in his fourth break opportunity in the last game and sealed the set with a 7-5 win.
Wang, who is ranked almost 600 spots above the Korean at the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, produced a better first serve share in the match. He also acceptably availed 32 out of 53 points on it and broke his rival’s serve six times to dominate
the match.
He will next face the second seed, Malek Jaziri, who tumbled over the local qualifier, Yu Cheng Li, in straight sets. The Tunisian smoothly held his entire serves and broke Li’s serve four times to register a 6-2, 6-2 success.
The top seed, Go Soeda, will accompany Wang in the follow-up set. He brushed off early resistance to overpower the Australian rising star, Samuel Groth, with a 7-6(3), 6-3 score line in one hour and 31 minutes.
