Jimmy White, Tony Drago play charity match for Sir Bobby Robson Foundation – Snooker news
Snooker legends Jimmy White and Tony Drago went head to head at the Newcastle Labour Club for a charity fundraiser for Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Sir Bobby Foundation, which was launched in March 2008, helps people in finding effective methods to fight against cancer. The foundation has raised millions to benefit the patients as of yet.
Tony Drago and the Whirlwind Jimmy White both took on each other and showcased their magnificent skills. They also played frames with their supporters and gathered a huge crowd, which helped in raising cash for the foundation later on.
One of the lucky fans who played the snooker’s most popular individual, Jimmy White, was an 11-year-old boy, Jordan Cunningham. Cunningham was very happy on playing with White. Though he told the media his favourite is Ronnie O’Sullivan, he said he wanted
to be like Jimmy.
Six-time world championship finalist, White also knows Sir Bobby personally, commented on the great man.
He said, “Sir Bobby was a wonderful man. I met him the once in a players’ lounge and he was a true gent. As a sports fan I always appreciated his talent and decency. Sir Bobby fought so hard and anyone who has suffered cancer will know what a fight he put
up. He was a wonderful man and it’s an honour for us to be able to do whatever we can for him.”
The foundation’s head of fundraising Pauline Buglass was very delighted with the efforts which were made by the players. While talking on his inclusion she said, “We’re very appreciative of the efforts Jimmy and Tony have made to support us and to Michael
Sheldon for organising this event for a second time.”
Buglass expressed his feeling for Sir Bobby saying that he would have been amazed with the way things were going. She hoped they could continue the work Sir Bobby started for cancer patients a few years back.
