Jimmy White believes Ding Junhui can win 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Snooker fans from around the world will be watching elite players of the game battling for the ultimate Crucible Glory. The potters are all set to commence the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Many cuemen are being considered
as potential contenders to lift the Crucible crown but for Jimmy White, China’s Ding Junhui can win the event this year.
While speaking to the media, White said, “Ding could win it this year. He's in the right frame of mind. He won the Masters last year and put to bed the mental problems after he lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan at the Masters a few years ago, when he found the pressure
of the big occasion too much.”
The People’s Champion added, “He's settled into a big house in Sheffield with his girlfriend living with him and he's really come of age. He's definitely my tip for the title.”
The Chinese potter has been a consistent performer throughout the season and has clinched a couple of important tournaments including the Championship League Snooker and was runner up in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event. The 2012 Welsh Open was
the only major ranking snooker event Junhui won after beating the World Number one, England’s Mark Selby.
The Whirlwind has played against the Chinese potter a couple of times in his career and knows the strengths and weaknesses of the Chinese Sensation. He faced Junhui in the quarter-final of 2010 Power Snooker and lost to him by 246-311. Second time he faced
the Star of the East in the semi-final of 2011 Premier League Snooker 6 but once again lost to the Chinese by the score line of 2-3.
The 25-year-old Junhui will be facing the Welshman Ryan Day in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. Both potters have faced each other in many snooker events and the odds between the pair are at 2-2 level. Definitely the first-round
match between the two will be a thrilling competition. The Crucible environment always attracts thousands of snooker fans to the arena and the management is hoping for a better response this year.
