Jimmy White believes York’s Barbican Centre is second to the Crucible Theatre: Snooker News
The UK Championship is returning to the Barbican Centre after five years and the former six-time Crucible finalist, Jimmy White, is pretty much delighted with the news, as he believes York’s Barbican Centre is the only second place that comes after
the Crucible Theatre.
“The Crucible is special but the Barbican is second only to the Crucible. I love the sound and the acoustics of the balls. It is special – a great venue. I think it (UK Championship) will be at the Barbican forever." He said.
Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ White is set to face the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan at the newly revamped building on May 19 in the latest stage of the Snooker Legends tour. White has also vowed he will put on a real show with the three-time World Champion, O’Sullivan,
for the fully packed house.
The legend added, “I am really excited about playing Ronnie on one of the main venues in the UK. You want to play him in any event but to do it in a top venue is brilliant. We are both attacking players and it will be a tremendous buzz. I will be trying
to win every frame. It’s an absolutely brilliant place and it is a lovely little city. There is always great support for snooker there.”
He claimed there would be a tremendous buzz, as he and O’Sullivan both are attacking players and also very popular.
He also commented on John Virgo, who will also come to the event to showcase some of his trick-shots. He stated that there is going to be an excellent participation from the crowd’s end, but when they will be done with the trick-shots and the entire
joke, they will see some real business.
Michaela Tabb, who is one of the leading referee’s, will also be officiating. VIP packages in the meanwhile will be available, which would guarantee the holder a prime seat at the event along with an entrance to the pre-event reception where they can
meet the players.
