Jimmy White believes he still has spark to win World Snooker Championship
England’s Jimmy White, who is renowned across the snooker world for his tremendous game play, has commented that he still possesses the spark to clinch the World Snooker Championship. The Whirlwind is the only potter who made his way into the final encounters
of six World Snooker Championships but was not able to win even a single of them.
This year he is aiming for the Crucible glory again as he moves to Civic Hall in Bedworth to participate in the 2012 Snooker Legends Cup against the team of legendary Stephen Hendry. The Snooker Legends is an invitational tournament where top potters of
the past relive their memories after playing against each other at the same table.
Winning the World Snooker Championship has always been a dream for the People’s Champion and he struggled hard for that. He has been caught in a bit of bad luck because despite hitting the final encounters of six World Snooker Championships in his career,
White has never been able to clinch even one of them which always hurt him.
However, he still has the hopes to bring fireworks at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield this year and believes that he will win the world title for him.
Speaking to the media about his ambition, White said, “I won the UK Championships in Preston and up to date, it’s the biggest tournament I have ever won. But I’m buzzing at the moment. I am just two matches away from going to Sheffield – I can’t wait to
get to the Crucible again.”
He added, “When I think back, I am not too upset. I would have liked to have won one. I missed the black in the deciding frame against Hendry in 1994. I twitched on the black. I think the main reason why the fans are behind me is because they like the way
I play the game and attack the game.”
White will be representing the team of Dennis Taylor in the 2012 Snooker Legends Cup along with Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Parrott. Their opponents will be Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty and Tony Drago skippered by Cliff Thorburn.
