Jimmy White crashes out to Liu Chuang on way to Crucible: 2011 World Snooker Championship qualifiers
The wonderful Whirlwind of London Town, Jimmy White, has fallen short in the Crucible bid.
White’s pursuit of an elusive world title is over after he lost 10-9 to China’s Liu Chuang in the qualifiers round 2 of the 2011 World Snooker Championship at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
White was looking pretty confident as he said he was in his best form and wanted to chase the title once again. He has featured in six previous finals of snooker’s greatest competition, albeit losing all six. He began his path to the Crucible, but has fallen
short against Chuang.
Liu Chuang, who previously had beaten David Grey in round 1, on the same note produced an accomplishing performance to see off the Legend.
It was a fully stretched battle and the overall score line between White and Chuang was 0-83, 83-0, 28-64, 57-51, 48-64, 67-40, 68-8, 6-52, 52-62, 68-61, 64-32, 100-8, 7-72, 65-39, 42-63, 22-67, 0-87, 80-26, and 0-78.
Chuang took the opening frame with quick fires of 56 and 21 before White also responded in the second. The third frame was again taken by Chuang but he lost the scrappy fourth on missing the black ball. The things were levelled before the interval by 2-2.
After the interval the Chuang took the first frame without doing anything outstanding before White bounced back to take two in a row with dominant breaks of 62 and 68.
White for the first time went ahead by 4-3 but he lost control of his emotions in the next two and gave many chances to his opponent which resulted in a 5-4 frame score in favour of Chuang by the end of first session.
Starting the second session with a 5-4 deficit, White rapidly moved into the lead of 7-5. He took the first three frames in a row enjoying breaks of 29, 49, and 56. Players traded the next two frames before the Chinese this time dominated three frames in
a row. He made breaks of 30, 67, and 41 respectively to leave his opponent one frame down with two to play.
In the eighteenth frame, Chuang again was on the run but he broke at 26 and brought his opponent on the table. White played a tactical game using his vast experienced and levelled the scores by 9-9 forcing a decider.
However, Jimmy White failed to register in the decider as Chuang with a couple of quick breaks, 30 and 43, knocked out the fans’ favourite.
Liu Chuang is now two rounds away from reaching the most prestigious event of snooker and will face Tom Ford in round 3.
