Jimmy White ousts Dominic Dale to qualify for China Open 2011 – Snooker news
‘People’s Champion’ Jimmy White has gone through to the last 32 beating Dominic Dale in the final qualifying round of the China Open 2011 by a frame score of 5-2 in a best-of-nine frame match held at the World Snooker Academy on February 27, 2011.
The overall score-line between the players was 9-65, 0-75, 24-64, 124-1, 9-80, 57-18, and 53-56.
It has been a while since Jimmy White has been seen in form. He had recently lost in the final qualifying round of the Welsh Open 2011 playing against Ryan Day by a frame score of 4-0. However, this time the legend has made it.
The frames played between the players were scrappy as there were no reasonable breaks produced from Jimmy’s end.
There was a bout of safety seen in the very first frame but the vast experience of Jimmy brought him on top. Dale was only able to pot 9 points in the frame whereas Jimmy on the other side kept on adding a few to his score every time and finally the first
blood went to him 1-0. The following frame was even worse for the Welshman, Dale, as he was not able to score even a single point until Jimmy rolled in the final 38 to go even ahead by 2-0.
Dale for the first time had a chance in the third frame to pull one back for him but after his first red he landed in a no man’s land bringing his opponent on the table, but Jimmy reprieved. Dale had his second chance and was on a run before he again broke
at a break of 23. This time he was punished by the Whirlwind, Jimmy White, who with a couple of quick fires, 44 and 20, wrapped it all up.
Dale, who was now trailing Jimmy by 3-0, bounced back with all of his zeal, energy and strength in the fourth frame and dominated it completely producing a superb century break of 120 to come within one frame 3-1.
However, Jimmy had no reeling effects as he took the next one again by playing a tactical game. Dale again could only pot a red in the whole frame.
Jimmy was now looking for only one more frame to reach the finish line before the spaceman again clawed back in the sixth with dominant breaks of 11 and 38. However, it was all over in the seventh by the Whirlwind who once again using his flawless safety
skills and experience won it.
Jimmy White now is going to face Mark Selby in the last 32 of the China Open on March 29, 2011 and hopefully it is going to a promising match between the two.
