Jimmy White ousts Liu Chuang in Qualifying Round 2 of China Open 2011 – Snooker news
The Legend, Jimmy White has made his way to round 3 beating the local boy Liu Chuang by a frame score of 5-3 in a best-of-nine frame match of China Open 2011.
Jimmy White is a player who on his prime was unstoppable. The ‘People’s Champion’ who made the first left-handed 147 in 1992 playing against Tony Drago and reached six world championship finals, though he was unlucky not to win any of those, must be crying
for being into the qualifiers now.
There were no centuries seen by either player in the match. However, it was a good battle.
In the opening frame Chuang visited the table three times on getting chances but wasn’t able to do any damage before Jimmy rolled in 47 points good enough to have the opener after a few more shots 1-0. Similarly, the second frame also was taken by him with
a couple of quick fires, 23 and 33, and he went even ahead by 2-0.
The Chinese, Chuang who had got chances first but could not capitalise on them, also bounced back with all of his zeal, energy and strength, and won the next three in a row with dominant breaks of 73, 70, and 61 respectively. Jimmy did not avail the given
chances and was punished. Chuang was not now leading Jimmy by 3-2 and there was a shock on the cards.
But Jimmy White had no reeling effects as he also roared back and won straight frames ahead to seal his victory.
In the sixth frame, Chuang was not able to pot even a single red as Jimmy pocketed it by giving him two blows, 52 and 16, and levelled the things 3-3. In the following frame although a chance was given to Chuang but he broke at 8 and another, 29 and 46,
from Jimmy took him ahead 4-3.
Chuang tried to claw back as he was on a run first in the eighth frame but again he gave a chance after a break of 31. Jimmy after potting 8 points gave an excellent safety shot to the local Chinese star and produced a magnificent break of 60 afterwards
to finish the matters off 5-3.
The level of game which Jimmy has played is not what people expect from him. Last time Jimmy lost to Ryan Day by four-frames-to-nil in the qualifying round 4 of the Welsh Open 2011. But let’s hope he brings a bit of his devastating form back in next match.
Jimmy White is now going to face Peter Lines in round 3.
