Jimmy White says Judd Trump can be labelled as the “Peoples Champion”
Six-time Crucible finalist, Jimmy White, has backed Judd Trump by saying that he can emerge as a ‘Peoples Champion’.
The Bristolian Ace potter, Trump, has already attracted an army of supporters since he knocked out the defending champion, Neil Robertson, in the first round of this year’s Betfred.com World Snooker Championship. He afterwards impressively shrugged off the
likes of Martin Gould, Graeme Dott and Ding Junhui to reach the final for the first-time ever in his career.
He lifted his first ever ranking event’s trophy recently in China and since then the twenty-one-year-old Englishman has been invincible.
The left-handed Trump has been one of the dominant players in this year's world championship and for which he has won himself many admirers, including the seven-time world champion, Stephen Hendry, six-time world champion Steve Davis, former 1991 world champion,
John Parrott and three-time world champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan.
However the most flattering recommendation has come up from the 'Peoples Champion-, Jimmy White. The Whirlwind, White, who is known as the greatest crowd pleasers, is a huge fan of the young boy's game.
"It is a bit unnerving watching Judd play sometimes because he does remind me so much of myself when I first came into the professional game," said White.
"It's not just that he's left-handed, I was a very attacking player at his age and went for shots other people didn't – and made a few along the way. But Judd's safety game is far better than mine when I was his age.
"Maybe there's a cycle or a pattern that keeps repeating itself; there has to be someone out there playing like that. The late, great Alex Higgins was the first people's champion.”
Jimmy White also said that Trump can go a step further than him, as he could never lift the snooker’s most prestigious events trophy. He said he can easily lift the title, if he doesn’t find the night clubs like him.
Trump is also leading the triple world champion, John Higgins, by 10-7 in the final and needs eight more frames to become the second youngest Crucible winner behind Stephen Hendry.
