Jimmy White wins final event on the 2011 Snooker Legends Tour – Snooker news
Snooker legend Jimmy White, who is a former six-time Crucible finalist, has won the last event on the 2011 Snooker Legends Tour as he defeated the 1985 World Champion Dennis Taylor in the final match.
The final event of this year’s Snooker Legend Tour, which started off on July 13, 2011, was being held at Grimsby Auditorium in Grimsby.
The Wonderful Whirlwind of the London town, Jimmy White, previously defeated the former world champion John Parrot in the semi-final before ousting Taylor in front of a crowd of over 600 people.
Both snooker legends provided a great show to the audience, as they both almost knocked in century breaks before missing the final black ball.
Cliff Thorburn was very delighted with the legends tour, as he feels great playing again on the green baize in front of his fans. Thorburn told the media he is enjoying snooker a lot by participating in the legend tour.
Thorburn then mentioned John Virgo who was also on the tour to provide live commentary and also to showcase some of his magnificent trick shots.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I have fun playing in Snooker Legends. When people saw me when I played in the old days they might not have thought I was having fun. But with John Virgo's live commentary it's obvious we all had a good time.”
Thorburn in the meanwhile also mentioned Jimmy White’s 147, which he made on the Snooker Legends Tour in May 2010.
“Jimmy White made a 147 in Ireland (in May) as well as one against me last year, and the very next game he was on for one again against John Parrott but missed the final pink,” said Thorburn.
Thorburn was also happy for Grimsby for hosting the event. He remarked Grimsby has produced many good snooker players as of yet and therefore there are a lot fans, who provide an excellent atmosphere.
“We've ended up here in Grimsby where quite a few good snooker players have come from and obviously there are a lot of fans. It's very enjoyable,” added Thorburn.
