Jimmy Yoder earns Boys 800m freestyle gold: Day one – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Jimmy S Yoder of RAYS-GA earned gold medal of the Boys 800m freestyle final on initial day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Star Aquatics on Thursday, March 8.
The USA Sectionals is a four-day swimming tournament that is a part of the 2012 Speedo Champions Series.
The 16-year-old Yoder exceeded expectations of his fans by overwhelming his competitors in the 800m discipline. He faced strong battle from UNC-NC’s Daniel J O’Connor in the first half of the race but with his alluring efforts, he became prominent for the crown of the event in the second half.
Yoder upset his challengers by hitting the wall in a fastest time of 8 minutes and 18.36 seconds for gold medal. With his stupendous form, he enjoyed an advantage of 1.15 seconds over O’Connor, who settled on the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing an effort of 8 minutes and 19.51 seconds.
The silver medallist remained in a prominent lead over his following swimmer, Benjamin G Miller of MOR-NC, who was 7.22 seconds slower from him and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 8 minutes and 26.73 seconds.
Similarly, Michael J Kenny of DYNA-GA stayed almost six seconds away from his preceding swimmer and touched the finishing end in a time of 8 minutes and 32.28 seconds for fourth position. The 18-year-old Kenny remained 2.68 seconds ahead of MOR-NC’s Adam K Linker, who earned fifth finest spot of the race by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 34.96 seconds.
The sixth spot of the race was secured by Franklin P Bradshaw of New South Swimming, who was only 0.31 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 8 minutes and 35.27 seconds. Bailey A Burt of MAC-NC claimed seventh position of the event as he posted an effort of 8 minutes and 37.37 seconds.
Cody C Bekemeyer of SA-GA seized eighth position of the race as he ended his swim in a time of 8 minutes and 39.20 seconds.
Furthermore, winners received accolades for their notable accomplishments after the session.
