Jimy Hettes survives at UFC 141, defeats Nam Phan – MMA news
American mixed martial art (MMA) fighters Nam Phan and Jimy Hettes locked hands in the featherweight bout which was held at UFC 141 on December 30, 2011.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) produced the event which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both fighters were looking for a win but it was Hettes who looks more concerned for a victory. The moment the fight starts he moves forward in a flash and successfully takes down Phan. The takedown was nearly effective as Hettes did not apply any further
pressure and also because Phan was fresh in the fight so he struggled himself back to his feet. The first round also saw Hettes go for the guillotine submission hold but Phan is using his own force to get back up and releases himself from the hold.
The moment Hettes lets go of Phan, he throws his punches from all directions. This makes Phan create some distance as the two fighters come on their feet. As they lock hands again, Hettes manages another takedown and strikes Phan’s head violently. The attack
is short lived as Phan is able to get on his back and counter Hettes’ moves. Hettes’ onslaught continued as he took every opportunity and went for an armbar. This was thought to be the submission move but Phan survived the first round.
During the second round of the fight, Hettes is again mounting pressure on Phan but the latter made a good comeback after the beating he took in the closing seconds of the first round. Both fighters made a great run in the second round and gave some serious
kicks and punches. This was expected from these two as they have shown an aggressive stance in their careers. Takedowns and strikes continued as Hettes soon came under Phan’s radar. Phan was violent in his attack but Hettes somehow stood his ground. Phan was
then taken down by Hettes as he gave some blows on his face but Phan remained conscious and stood back for a fight. Phan was intelligent enough to create some space as he thought of his next strategy. The second round ended with both fighters still surviving
the fight.
In the third round, Hettes gave a devastating head kick which nearly knocked out Phan and gave him the chance to go for a punch but Phan stood on his feet and moved away. Hettes was now going for the submission move but Phan squeezed out, yet Hettes was
on the offensive and gave continuous strikes to Phan. The third round ended with Hettes as the winner of the bout. He won the fight 30-25, 30-25, 30-26.
