Jin Jeong’s former coach, Trevor Flakemore finally gets an apology
British Amateur Champion, South Korean Jin Jeong’s former coach, Trevor Flakemore was finally able to receive a formal apology from Jin’s father who terminated him last year via email. Flakemore had a chat with the 21-year-old Jin’s father at the Masters
where they had a chance to discuss the issue in detail. The former coach was deeply perturbed the way he was dismissed, and had been looking for an explanation for almost a year. Flakemore wrote in an email after witnessing an impressive debut by the young
South Korean at the Masters. Jin started off with 1-over for 73 in the opening round on Thursday.
"I had a meeting after the round with Jin's Dad and got my message across with my feelings and his handling of Jin's career. A good result in the end, I got a lot of things off my chest and received the appropriate apologies and gratitude for the past. So
Jin and I can get on with a positive relationship for the future.”
Jin made headlines last year when he became the first Asian to lift the British Amateur title and later finished for a joint 14th in the British Open, one shot ahead of Tiger Woods. Flakemore, who had been with the young golfer since the tender
age of 15, was subsequently relieved of his duties. Unfortunately, the move resulted in Jin’s career to slide in obscurity. Falkemore received a frantic call in September asking him to meet Jin in Switzerland as the young golfer with an 83 on the second round
of the European Masters was heading towards a complete meltdown.
"I'm now referred to by his dad as his Aussie Father," Flakemore said after his meeting with Jin’s father. "All I wanted was to be appreciated for the four years of effort and now I am satisfied,"
Jin recorded a respectable finish at the Masters with a 6-over, settled for 82nd alongside World number one, Martin Kaymer. He will be heading straight into Texas Open this Thursday, for the first time as a professional golfer. Americans, Colt
Knost and Kyle Stanley will also be making their professional debuts at the tournament. Jin has been invited by the European Tour to participate in seven upcoming events.
