Jing Yi Tee determined to utilise her Olympic debut for becoming world class shuttler
Malaysia’s best Women’s Singles shuttler Jing Yi Tee will make her Olympic debut at the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games and she is determined to earn a valuable experience from this mega event to become a world class shuttler.
Jing Yi, who has been positioned at number 51 in Women’s Singles world placements, has been playing good badminton for the last one year which earned her a berth in Olympics.
She will be the only Malaysian shuttler who will appear in Women’s Singles draw of London Olympics as no other player from the country could manage to qualify for the mega event.
The 21-year-old Jing Yi may not have attained the highest level of skills but she is confident to gain an invaluable experience in the mega event which will help her in the elevation of skills and in earning her a respectable place in Women’s Singles category.
At London Olympics, Jin Yi will join hands with five other Malaysian shuttlers including Men’s Singles Lee Chong Wei, Men’s Doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Mixed Doubles Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon.
Jing Yi is the youngest shuttler in the Olympic bound squad of Malaysia and she is confident to give her best at the mega event.
She stated, “My previous major competitions were the SEA Games and Uber Cup Finals. I have yet to even compete in the individual event of the Asian Games. So, I’m still very excited about my coming Olympic debut. It’s a dream come true.”
She further added, “It’ll be tough in London but I’m still young and I’m determined to learn as much as possible. There are so many good women’s singles players and of course, China will be the favourites. I will be more than happy to beat at least one person in my group.”
Jing Yi has been working really hard for the last few months in training sessions and is quite satisfied with her Olympic preparations.
However, she admitted that she has not yet reached at the level of former Malaysian shuttler Wong Mew Choo but she also showed a steely determination to become a commendable shuttler of Malaysia.
