Jiri Vesely defeats Vladyslav Manafov 6-3, 6-1
Top seed Jiri Vesely of Czech Republic remained on course for his first title at the Flushing Meadows as he beat Vladyslav Manafov of Ukraine in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round of the boys’ singles event at the US Open
in New York on Monday. The Czech needed just 53 minutes to thrash his opponent in a one-sided contest.
Manafov came roaring into the match as he broke the Czech in the second game of the first set and consolidated on it to grab a 3-0 lead. However, it was all Vesely show after that as he put brakes on the Ukrainian, breaking him
three times and sealing six straight games to capture the set 6-3.
The Czech was almost flawless in the second set as he dropped just one game, breaking Manafov two times and holding all of his service games to seal the set 6-1. Vesely served quite well, clinching nine of the eleven points on
the first serve and seven of the nine points on the second serve in the second set.
The left-handed is slated to meet Marcos Giron of USA in the second round.
Julian Lenz beats Yaraslau Shyla 6-0, 6-2
German Julian Lenz scored a one-sided win against Yaraslau Shyla of Belarus, beating him 6-0, 6-2 in just 45 minutes to reach the second round of the boys’ singles event.
Lenz crushed the Belarusian in the first set as he did not drop even a single game, breaking him three times and capturing six consecutive games to seal the set 6-0. The German gave a solid first serve performance, hitting 60 percent
of the first serves and converting eight of the nine of them into points in the first set. The unseeded made the real difference with his offensive returns of serve, claiming an amazing twelve of the eighteen receiving points in the opening set.
The German carried the winning momentum into the second set and broke Shyla in the opening game, holding his following service game and taking a 2-0 lead. Lenz broke the Belarusian again in the fifth game and consolidated on it
to stretch his lead to 5-1. The German served out the set in the eighth game, sealing it 6-2. The right-handed won two of the three break points he received on the Belarusian’s serve in the second set.
Lenz is drawn to face Alexios Halebian of USA in the second round.
