I bruised the cartillage in my rib from brazilian jiujitsu training like 3 times and took about month breaks in between each injury. I eventually quit because I had had enough. It's been about 3 months since I quit and I feel fine now and I want to do jiu jitsu again and was wondering if I strengthened my abs and obliques more, I would be less prone to rib injuries. I'm 6'1 142 lbs. what can I do to prevent rib injuries

  1. Yeah, your lats would probably pad your ribs up. Strengthening obliques is a good idea too.

If I may ask, how did you injure your ribs initially? Was it from a takedown and somebody landing on you?

  2. 142 lbs at 6'1" is very thin. Not to be disrectful but you sound like skin and bones. I would consider beefing up about 25 pounds of muscle to your frame. There many exercises that you can do that will strengthen your core. exercises like bench press, lat pull downs, seated rows and various type of abdominal exercises to name a few. The added muscle mass will help your body to take the hard training. Your'll have to figure out a program of diet and strenght training to help you. Try talking with a proffesional personal trainer to get you started.

  3. ive heard that strengthening your lats helps.

  4. Ask your doctor if your ready again and wear padding when training.

  5. i agree with reader

being that tall and that skinny isn't common

its not a bad thing you have a height advantage over many you would go against

work your core tho, try to strengthen all around a little too so you bulk up a bit

im kind of curious too if you injured yourself during a takedown or what
