Jiyai Shin performs well at CN Canadian Women's Open 2012
Jiyai Shin displayed a solid performance in the third round of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, but could not stand her ground when she moved into the final round on Sunday as she shot a 71 to finish tied for
the third position along with fellow South Korean Chella Choi and Na Yeon Choi.
Shin got off to a decent start at the 2012 edition of CN Canadian Women’s Open as she did not seem to be under pressure after other contenders tried to mount pressure in the first two rounds.
The South Korean star, despite making a good start in a tournament featuring some of the most talents LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars, made several mistakes in the last round, which stopped
her from advancing on the leaderboard.
She kicked off the final round at the Vancouver Golf Club with plenty of confidence as she shot a birdie on the first hole. Although her performance has been a little rickety in some of the recent tournaments,
Shin’s putting looked much better than it did a few weeks back. Her swing improved greatly which proved helpful in her making perfect shots on the fairways.
After birdying the first hole, the young star parred four holes in a row. However, she could not keep a grip on her strokes on the par-5 sixth and ended up registering a double bogey. She made a bogey on the
difficult par-3 seventh, hurting her position on the leaderboard.
In a bid to regain composure after faltering on two holes on the front nine, she sank a perfect birdie-putt on the ninth. On the back nine, her performance improved a little as she shot two birdies and no bogey.
Commentators said that if Shin had maintained her momentum on the front nine of the last round, she would have given a tough time to the leader of CN Canadian Women’s Open — Lydia Ko, who carded an overall
275 to clinch her first LPGA victory.
The LPGA titan spoke to the media at the end of the third round, expressing confidence in her game.
“Actually, every day my goal was just to make a couple of birdies, because the last couple of days I hit at 2‑under, 2‑under. So I'm really happy with this course. It's really tough,” she shared. “It isn't
a hundred percent, but I think it's good enough. In Vancouver there is a really big Korean population here, so a lot of Korean gallery, lot of Korean fans come out to cheer us, so I really play with a lot of fans”.
