Jiyai Shin rises to seventh in world rankings
South Korean Jiyai Shin has risen to the seventh place in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, despite getting off to a slow start in the current season.
Shin has been playing on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour and LPGA of Korea Tour and has performed well.
However, the 23-year-old South Korean has been winless for the last two seasons. Rising to the seventh spot is being considered a good sign in Shin’s career.
She participated in the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012 — the first major tournament of the season. She displayed an average performance and finished tied for the 26th.
However, analysts said that surging to the seventh in the world ranking reflects that Shin can further improve her position, despite the fact that the top spots are occupied by competent players.
Shin has won 8 events on the LPGA Tour. However, her best performance has been recorded in the LPGA of Korea Tour, as she has claimed 21 titles.
On the other hand, the number one position is still held by Yani Tseng. The Taiwanese star has been performing well on the LPGA Tour and has remained on the top position for the last 62 weeks now.
Other players also tried their best to surge ahead Tseng, but her resilience has been a great asset in maintaining her ascendency over her rivals.
Due to her popularity in women’s golf, Tseng is often compared with Tiger Woods, who racked up fourteen major titles. She may not have won as many tournament as Woods has, but her distinct style on the course helps her eclipse most of the players in women’s
golf history.
Tseng has displayed a stellar performance so far, with 15 victories on the LPGA. She not only proved her worth on the LGPA, but she also grabbed 6 triumphs on the European Tour — a feat that has helped her stay ahead of her rivals.
The second spot is currently seized by Na Yeon Choi, who is being chased by Suzann Pettersen. A big development was recorded when Paula Creamer slipped from the 8th to the 10th spot in the world rankings.
Ai Miyazato, who was standing at the 7th a few days back, has now dropped one place to the 8th.
